Environment

Rookery Barns is mindful of the environment. We seek to use sustainable 100% certified timber in our buildings, and have a company wide concern for our impact on the planet.

Our carefully chosen supplier for our wood is English Woodlands Timber. Most of our oak comes from France where the forestry industry is enormous and heavily regulated. The oak is responsibly grown in long straight lengths, harvested and replanted ensuring an ongoing plentiful supply.

English Woodlands subscribe to chain-of-custody certification schemes that provide assurance of  “legal and sustainable” timber felling as part of formal forest management plans. It means the tree and timber can be tracked through the supply chain and means we know the wood is certified as 100% assured. The 100% represents the strongest assurance of safety and the greatest level of sustainability.

The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC scheme (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) apply internationally and follow the timber across borders.  Most countries, even in Europe, have differing levels of legality in their forest practices so the only way to ensure our wood is sustainable is to stick with the 100% rule.
